Lessons

There are two types of golf instructors. The first type is called a Method Teacher. They believe that everyone should swing the club the same way. To me, this is like walking into a clothing store and grabbing the first pair of pants that you see and then proceed to the checkout. My style is a Matchup Teacher. The style selected for the student is based on many factors such as body type, flexibility, and skill level.

There are many well-known styles to choose from, all of which can be quite successful. The most common methods are a One Plane Swing, a Two Plane Swing, a Stack and Tilt Swing, and a Natural Golf Swing. Each swing type has a different set of principles. The principles which suit one swing type should never be used for another swing type.

Many golfers use a blend of more than one style. The successful teacher must proceed down the correct path for their student to be successful. This, I believe is the art of teaching golf. At the end of the day, golf is a game and games are for enjoyment. Helping my students to get more enjoyment out of their game is my goal.

"I'm 57 years old and have been playing golf off and on since I was 12 years old. The last couple years I have been playing more regularly and my improvement has leveled off. I hit some balls great and some to the left, some to the right and some fat. The problem is I don't know why. Of course there is no shortage of helpful suggestions from the people I play with - "you’re coming across the ball", "the face is open", "you pulled it" and of course the infamous "keep your head down". But no one could tell me WHY! Practicing at the range didn't help because I didn't know what to practice. My clubs were about 12 years old so I figured that new clubs would do the trick.

I made an appointment with Brian for a club fitting. At this point Brian could have sold me the most expensive set of clubs they had but instead he recommended working on my swing instead of fitting me for clubs. I signed up for a series of 3 lessons with Brian over the winter months. The facilities and technology were great. Brian was able to show me in multiple ways what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. Most importantly he was able to explain what I needed to work on in terms that made sense to me. I'm hitting the ball better but most importantly I know what to work on at the range. I also got a club fitting after the lessons and was impressed how much went into it.

I feel confident that my new clubs are the right clubs for me and they will fit me correctly. Brian was able to build my confidence up so I feel better when addressing the ball and renewed my excitement about the game. I can't wait to get my new clubs."
